How the working days calculator works
Every day is a working day or it is not. A day is not a working day when its weekday is not ticked, when it is a public holiday you want to skip, or when you added it as a day off yourself. The calculator walks through the calendar day by day and counts only the working days.
With a start date and a number of working days, the end date is the day that number is reached. With two dates, the result is the number of working days in the period. By default the start day itself is not counted and the end day is: five working days after a Monday is the next Monday, if you work Monday to Friday. With “Count the start day” the count begins on the start day itself.
The public holidays are calculated, not typed in per year: the date of Easter follows from a rule, and Ascension and Whitsun count from Easter. King's Day is 27 April, or 26 April when the 27th is a Sunday. The overview per year with week numbers is on the week numbers page.
Construction holiday (bouwvak)
The construction holiday dates per region are not shown here: we could not establish them from an official source, and we do not guess. If you know them from your collective agreement or employers' organisation, add them as your own days off.
Frequently asked questions
Is the start day counted?
By default it is not: you count from the next day. Turn on “Count the start day” if the start day itself is the first day. The end day always counts if it is a working day.
Which public holidays are skipped?
New Year's Day, Easter Sunday and Monday, King's Day, Ascension Day, Whit Sunday and Monday and both Christmas days, if you leave that option on. Good Friday and Liberation Day are separate choices, because not every employer or client gives the day off.
Can I count Saturdays too?
Yes. Tick Saturday under “Which days do you work?”, or choose “Mon to Sat”. Days you leave unticked are skipped.
How do I add the construction holiday or my own holiday?
Use “Your own days off”: pick the first and last day and add. The construction holiday dates themselves are not shown here, because we could not check them against an official source.
Why does my result differ from my own planning?
Look under the result: it lists the skipped public holidays and own days off, and the sum in calendar days. The difference can be the start day, a public holiday or the days you work.
Which dates does it work for?
From 2014 to 2100. Outside that, the calculator shows a message instead of a guess.
Is my data stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and what you type never goes to a server. We only count anonymously how the page is used (no cookies, no IP address). Only if you tick “Remember my input” does your own browser keep the details on your own device.
